We like to open that dialogue.” Nearly one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Frohman and Hubiak didn’t discuss their fears during the prostate cancer. “My initial fear was death,” he said. “I didn’t initially tell Cindie this and she didn’t tell me what she was feeling because she felt the focus needed to be on me.” The couple admitted to struggling in their relationship because of prostate cancer, but Hubiak said no one should divorce because of the disease. “Prostate cancer tore us apart at fi rst, and we tried a number of different ways to come back together,” Hubiak said. “We have a much stronger relationship because of the prostate cancer.” Solutions for Intimacy addresses these issues. After learning about the couple’s background, a team of professionals determines a tiered program of solutions for both individuals and the couple as a whole. Frohman and Hubiak guide couples through the process. In addition to Solutions for Intimacy, Hubiak has written a book, “A Woman’s Guide to Thriving After Prostate Cancer,” in which she shares her experience and coping strategies. “The tendency is to focus on the man through the whole prostate cancer experience,” Frohman said. “What Cindie has surfaced is women dealing with prostate cancer from an emotional standpoint as well as a physical standpoint.” Neighbor Continued from page 24 “One day, while strolling, the weather got pretty crazy. We experienced rain, sunshine and a few brief moments of hail all in about an hour,” Jason said. Dominic visited Trinity College where he saw the Book of Kells, the National Museum of Ireland and the Old Jameson Distillery. At the Jameson Distillery, Dominic was selected as one of fi ve whiskey tasters out of the entire tour group, and he was the only taster who passed with a perfect score. “He’s even got the certi fi cate. He is a certi fi ed whiskey taster by the Old Jameson Distillery,” Jason said. “After we left the distillery, we were in a rush to get back to the hotel. It was our last night in Dublin and the biggest group event of the whole trip – a private party at the Guinness Storehouse. We were jogging back when we passed this homeless man and his life story written in chalk on the sidewalk, about 30 lines long. “Even though we were in a hurry, Dom dropped what he was doing, stopped, visited with the man, read his poem and emptied his pockets out into his change cup. “That’s just the sort of guy Dom was.” On Nov. 11, a single-car accident in Phoenix ended Dominic’s life at the age of 26, before he could embark on his next great adventure. He had traveled to Mexico and Australia in addition to his homeland. Dominic’s friends who traveled with him will never forget the sound of his voice as he quoted Braveheart in a deep, Irish accent: “Ireland, it’s my island!” His father, Don, mother, Maureen, and sister, Bessie, will continue his travels for him. They plan to visit Dominic’s island this summer and retrace his footsteps, dispersing some of his ashes throughout the land that made him feel so alive and so free.
