We’ve had people reak noses and need stitches.” Bristor has taken the team from a club hat couldn’t compete all the way to the World Cup in New York in November – where the team was eliminated in bracket lay when it won three games and lost ne. Now, the team is gearing up for the Western Cup in April and plans on being back at the World Cup next year. Part of the success, members said, is due to the leadership of the team. Ryann Padilla was a member of the club before Bristor took over the team. Nothing happened during her freshman year, but the next year Bristor took over and the game began. “From Day One the game became real,” Padilla, now a senior, said. “We had double the people from my freshman year and were able to play games. “Not only have we improved physically, but we have improved strategically.” Benjamin Little, who has been on the team for a year, said that when Bristor started appointing captains of each position, the team’s play improved. “The speci fi c leadership has really helped,” he said. Not every member is a die-hard Harry Potter fan, either. Bristor said some people haven’t even read a book or seen a movie, but love the sport. However, for those fans of the books and movies, it looks a little different than what they remember seeing Daniel Radcliffe – a.k.a Harry Potter – do on screen. There are no fl ying brooms or bludgers with a mind of their own. Originally, two bored students began playing the game on Sundays with friends at Middlebury College in Vermont in 2005. By 2007, tournaments were being held across the country.
