Welcome to The Man-Test Dec. 10 in Tempe created by a group of business- minded women, who call themselves the Chief Female Of fi cers The 5K physical and mental endurance challenge is led by head CFO and Arcadia resident Chelsie Chmela. She said she handpicked each member of the CFOs: “We are all die-hard and business-savvy ladies.” The CFOs decided to put their own spin on a mud run for a good cause. The Man-Test is expecting around 3,000 competitors, Chmela said. A portion of the participant registration and spectator fees will bene fi t the National Breast Cancer Coalition and the Virginia G. Piper Prostate Cancer campaign. “We’re trying to make a fun atmosphere for everyone,” said Chmela, the head CFO. Originally from Chicago, Chmela graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in tourism, development and management. She moved to Arcadia earlier this year and works as a consultant for a private investor. Chmela also is a certi fi ed special-event coordinator and convention sales and meeting planner. “Chelsie is a very organized and ef fi cient event planner,” said Shay Bolton, the group’s promotional manager. “When they say she’s the Chief Female Of fi cer, we mean she’s really the chief.” The Man-Test is broken into two parts. First is the Man-Test Challenge. Bolton described the 5K obstacle course as a test of human abilities. In the Man-Test, men and women must navigate two-story mud pits, scale an 8-12 foot wall, trudge through ice baths and tunnels fi lled with electricity, get wet in Tempe Town Lake, test their memory, and participate in other endurance- straining challenges. “We’ve worked closely with licensed engineers to make sure all obstacles are the safest they can be,” Chmela said. Paramedics will be on site. The second part is the Man-Card Challenge, where men and women will compete against each other in a battle of the sexes. In this race, men will be equipped with “man cards” that the women competitors will attempt to remove and collect. For each card that a lady gets her hands on, her name will go into a raf fl e to win prizes. “Age doesn’t matter in our competition,” Bolton said.
