Page 54 September 2011 A RC A DI A SPORTS PAGE A RC A DI A SPORTS PAGE By Jessica Abercrombie Jared Dudley, 26-year-old Phoenix Suns guard-forward, said he enjoys nothing more than watching his daughter interact with animals at the zoo, strolling in the park with his wife and using his Twitter account to prepare for his career after the NBA. “If I’m not having fun, I wouldn’t be happy,” Dudley said. “My happiness is success, love and family.” Dudley said he has to spend time with his family or he’s just not as happy in life. “I’m lucky to have a good wife to be there with my daughter in those moments when I am gone,” said Dudley, 2007 ACC Player of the Year. Dudley said he loves the way his toddler daughter resembles him both physically and behaviorally. “It’s crazy because she looks just like me, she has my personality,” he said. “She wants everyone to pick her up and take her all over the place. “She always wants to do something and I love that.” Interning during the summers for such broadcast stations as ESPN, Dudley said when he’s not chasing his daughter around he’s diligently preparing for life after basketball. The frequent Twitter user, @ jareddudley619, said social media outlets also help build his resume beyond athletic credentials. “Social media allows me to show my personality especially with things like interviews, talking to the media, JMZ and interacting with fans,” he said. “When I’m done with my career I want people to know that I’m not just a basketball player, but I have this other side to me, too.” JMZ is Dudley’s athlete-oriented YouTube version of TMZ, a celebrity news website. Dudley said he doesn’t see himself as a celebrity, but rather an athlete that’s well known. “If you aren’t on US Weekly, you’re not a celebrity,” he said. Lady Titans: hot summer The summer girls basketball team from Arcadia High fi nished summer play with a second-place fi nish in the Varsity Black Division of the Desert Hoops Shootout in Glendale. The tournament featured 43 teams in three divisions, 15 of which were in the Varsity Black (the tournament’s highest) division. The Arcadia roster included Carsen Dresbach, Gabrielle Evans, Sarah Finley, Megan Gillespie, Andrea Goulette, Gianna Grumbein, Katlyn James, Madison Kern and Amber Scharnow.
