Traveling across country – even a short trip to California – won’t require extra vaccinations, but this check list will help you avoid any health bumps along the road. If you take medications with you, check the recommendations for temperature, sunlight, etc., so that your medications will stay effective. If you are fl ying, be sure medications are in the original packaging to assist with the security process. In addition, be sure they are in your carry-on bag in case of lost luggage. Take copies of prescriptions with you, or fi nd out the nearest location of the national pharmacy chain where you get your re fi lls. In some parts of the country, it’s a lot harder to fi nd a 24/7 pharmacy than in the Phoenix metro area. Take what you need and then take extra of vitamins, medications, inhalers, insulin, etc., just in case plans change. Pack a few over-the-counter medications in your bag – acetaminophen, anti-diarrhea medication, etc. You may not feel like running to the store if you feel ill. Consult the pharmacist. Often he or she can recommend an over-the-counter medication that will help alleviate symptoms if you’re not sure what to do. If you have a chronic condition, take time to fi nd out where the nearest hospital and urgent care center are located. Take along over-the-counter allergy medicine.
