Page 18 February 2011 A look at life, the neighborhood and life in the neighborhood by Arcadia’s youngest writers By Julie Demetros Season of the Witch Director: Dominic Sena Actors: Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore, Claire Foy, Ulrich Thomsen and Robert Sheehan Season of the Witch is exciting, dark and adventurous. Set in the 14 th century, Behmen (Cage) and Felson (Perlman) are knights who have survived and fought together for years during the Crusades. They decide to give up killing and leave, but not long after that they are hired to escort a girl (Foy) suspected of witchcraft and the creation of the Black Plague to a temple where monks are to decide her fate. Along with priest Debelzaq (Moore), knight Eckhardt (Thomsen), and a young man (Sheehan), the two knights set off with the witch imprisoned in an ironclad carriage. During the long trip, tricks are played, lives are lost, wolves rise and a dark truth is revealed. One of the best decisions made on this movie was casting Cage and Perlman. They have good chemistry, and you can easily imagine them being the best of friends. On top of that, the movie isn’t dominated by either one. If it had been written or directed differently, the focus of it could’ve been either Cage or Perlman, which would have taken the attention away from the story and the characters. But the way it’s written, you really come to see the characters more than the actors. Another point about the writing is the dialogue, which is great.
