Page 14 February 2011 Film Festival offers moving experience for all ages By Kaila White The Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival is coming up this month, and in its 15th year is bigger than ever. “The last couple years we’ve sold out theaters; it has de fi nitely been very successful the past few years,” said Roni Zee, the festival’s artistic director. “Turning people away in a 425-seat theater is impressive,” When she fi rst joined the festival’s board seven years ago, the festival usually only sold out one or two fi lms, now theaters are near full every night. The festival will offer 13 fi lms from Feb. 12-27, bringing movies from around the world with Jewish content to Phoenix, she said. Its development increased when the Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival merged with the Sun Lakes Jewish Film Festival in the East Valley three years ago, Zee said. The merger has been so successful that this year it’s expanding further. “We show at Harkins Camelview and Crossroads, and for the fi rst time this year at Arrowhead,” Zee said. “It has been so successful that this year we thought we’d try it in the West Valley.” The goal for this year is equally expansive. “As the artistic director, I set the tone and fl avor of each year.
