Page 4 January 2011 By Dale Messmer There’s still shopping to be done, the guests arrive today, it’s deadline on top of it all ... No, not your holiday horror. You have fi nished yours, and probably recovered from New Year’s Eve, too. I still look forward to the festivities. Or will if I ever fi nish this column. That seems like a long time between writing and reading, but let’s grab an opportunity. I’ll try to make a point. I’ll try. The deadline for news submissions (stories and photos) is the 15th of the month prior to publication. The paper is available to you as close to the 1st as possible. You can see by the time difference (I can hear the sleigh bearing down on me as I type; you’re still talking about that Oregon-Auburn game), there’s a reason for our early deadline. It is not, as one man no doubt stricken by Holiday Madness asked in an email, that we aren’t interested in your information. We want it in the paper, I kid you not. There’s just not much I can do when you’re writing me on the 22nd and I just put the paper to bed. Did you hear Holiday Madness creep into that last sentence? It’s important to fi nish this column quickly if I want to have any friends or family left on the 26th. Now sometimes, rarely we hope, we get information before deadline that doesn’t get into the paper (sorry Bulldogs). You can still improve your chances. It’s a paperless of fi ce. OK, not really, but I stay out of of fi ces as much as possible and thus can have a nearly paperless life. So email us. Me. Attach photos (some of our readers are really good photographers; see Chance Carpenter’s great shot on page 33 with our Arcadia’s Cookbook feature). Editor@arcadianews.com. Talking about submissions, how about that cray fi sh cover? Nice little story by fi fth-grader Max McCauley on page 41. And check out the Hopi Holiday Care Drive on page 19. School’s back for January, and we’ve got some interesting stories to celebrate. One is Julia Swem’s look at preparing for the ACTs and SATs on page 12. Looks like it’s the end. Time to decorate the tree and wrap (buy?) gifts. Happy January to you. And thanks for reading the Arcadia News .
