The interaction between the grade levels boosts everyone’s self esteem, Woolsey said. “High school kids are interacting with third graders,” she said. “The younger kids are looking up at the older kids thinking ‘I’m going to be that Titan’ and the high schoolers realize they are now the leaders of younger generations.” Communication with the parent-teacher organization has increased. The complex meets quarterly with the organization to communicate any problems and issues. Achievements are celebrated, too. “We just want to get to know each other and focus on improving our schools,” Woolsey said. The complex meets every two weeks to focus on student achievement. To determine if the new program is successful, the complex will take into account parent feedback, assess Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS), student achievement data and a drug, alcohol survey done by the AZ Youth Survey through the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission. From there, complex members will look at what they were able to accomplish and whether their efforts have been effective. “This has been a grassroots effort,” Woolsey said. “The efforts of the administration, teachers, students and parents, it has all been a collective capacity. “Next year we want to be bigger, better and more collaborative. We want to be models. We want to become champions,” she said. Principals Continued from page 12 3416 N. 44th St. * 5222 E. Osborn Rd. * 2805 N. 61st Pl. 4506 E.
